Our Pregnancy Ultrasound Services

At SonoCare Ultrasound, we provide high-quality, patient-centred imaging in a calm and supportive environment. Our range of obstetric scans is designed to guide, reassure, and support you throughout every stage of your pregnancy.

DATING / VIABILITY SCAN

The dating and viability scan is an early pregnancy ultrasound performed between 6 and 10 weeks. It confirms the pregnancy, how many babies, checks your baby’s heartbeat, and determines your due date—offering reassurance during the early stages.

FETAL ANATOMY SCAN

The fetal anatomy scan, done between 18 and 23+6 (preferred 20-22 weeks) weeks, is a detailed assessment of your baby’s growth and development. It includes evaluation of baby from head-to-toe, including the brain, heart, spine, stomach, bowel, kidneys, bladder, and limbs. If you wish, the fetal gender can be determined. Position of placenta, amniotic fluid index (AFI). Assess the risk of preterm labour if indicated. Particularly where there are specific risk factors such as a prior preterm delivery or a first pregnancy.

This scan provides an in-depth evaluation of your baby’s development while offering a meaningful and reassuring experience for expecting parents.

GENDER SCAN

From around 16 weeks, the gender scan allows for determination of your baby’s sex. It’s a special and memorable moment, combined with a brief check of your baby’s development.

NUCHAL TRANSLUCENCY (NT SCAN -1st Trimester screening

The Nuchal Translucency (NT) scan is a first-trimester screening ultrasound performed between 11 and 13+6 weeks’ gestation. It involves measuring the subcutaneous fluid at the fetal neck, which is used to assess the risk of chromosomal abnormalities, including trisomy 21 (Down syndrome).

This examination also includes confirmation of gestational age, viability, and an early anatomical assessment. When combined with maternal serum markers, it forms part of a comprehensive first-trimester screening protocol.

The procedure is safe, non-invasive, and provides valuable early pregnancy information to guide further care.

GROWTH & DOPPLER SCAN

The Growth & Doppler scan is a detailed assessment performed in the third trimester to monitor your baby’s growth, wellbeing, and placental function. It is particularly important in pregnancies where closer monitoring is required.

This scan is especially valuable in the monitoring of:

  • Suspected small or large for gestational age babies

  • High-risk pregnancies (e.g. hypertension, diabetes, previous complications)

  • Reduced fetal movements

  • Placental insufficiency or suspected fetal growth restriction

In selected cases, additional assessment may include evaluation of cervical length or other indicators associated with the risk of preterm birth.

3/4D SCANS

Our 3D/4D scans offer a unique opportunity to see your baby’s features and movements in real time. This elective scan provides a beautiful bonding experience and lasting memories for you and your family. This scan is not used to diagnose any conditions.

Our services should not be used to replace regular prenatal care provided by your physician or obstetrician. During each ultrasound we do a general abnormalities check, and should we detect anything that does not appear normal we will refer accordingly.

Ultrasound is a diagnostic tool used to monitor and inform decisions during pregnancy. Your ultrasound will be conducted by a qualified sonographer trained in obstetric ultrasounds. I cannot treat any conditions. Ultrasound helps monitor conditions and plan further management. If issues are detected, seek medical treatment from your chosen healthcare provider.

While most ultrasounds provide excellent quality, they may not detect all disorders or defects due to factors like baby's age, position, your body type, and past surgeries. If organs can't be fully evaluated, a rebooking may be needed at no extra cost.

It's crucial to note that some issues may develop later in pregnancy. A normal ultrasound doesn't guarantee absence of future problems or rule out birth defects, genetic, or chromosomal issues, some of which may not be detectable by ultrasound.
